Allianz EMPAD Fund

Published purpose

This impact investment fund aims to scale and mobilize private capital towards projects that meet climate goals in developing countries. The fund aims to raise about CAD 1.35 billion, with support from Global Affairs Canada helping to attract more investment. The fund’s investments, which are primarily delivered by development finance institutes and international financial institutions, aim to increase climate mitigation and resilience, create jobs, and increase finance available to underserved populations such as women-led businesses and farmers in emerging and developing markets. The project activities include: (1) creating 10,000 jobs in infrastructure and renewable energy; 200MW of installed solar and wind energy; (2) reaching 12,639 farmers; 667,080 loans issued, including 326,994 to women-led businesses and entrepreneurs.
