Published purpose
This contribution supports the revitalization of the Malahat (MÁLEXEŁ) community's cultural connection to the marine environment through increased stewardship capacity. Malahat Guardians will maintain a consistent presence on the waters and shorelines to regularly observe activities, species presence, and development impacts. These observations are critical for an understanding of the territory, informed leadership and community decision-making, and connection with the environment. This capacity will enable Malahat Guardians to continue engagement with the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve and the Southern Resident Killer Whale program.
