Published purpose

This project will expand wildlife and environmental monitoring programs into a remote area of the Mackenzie Mountains in the Northwest Territories to improve understanding of caribou populations, water quality, bird biodiversity, lichen habitat, and fish habitat. Working in a region that is ecologically important and culturally significant to the Gwich’in, the research will address critical knowledge gaps about the health, distribution, and connectivity of northern mountain and boreal caribou, as well as broader ecosystem conditions. The findings will support community priorities, strengthen stewardship of renewable resources, and help ensure that wildlife, water, and habitat are effectively managed for future generations.
