This project aims to reduce risks to populations in the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region and Canadians from infectious diseases, whether natural, accidental or deliberate in nature. Project activities include: (1) developing undergraduate courses in biosafety and biosecurity for the LAC higher education system; (2) establishing a women’s network for biosafety and biosecurity and ensure that the IFBA “DEI in biosafety and biosecurity implementation tool” is widely disseminated across institutions handling biological materials in the LAC region and (3); ensuring that candidates have access to the Portuguese and Spanish versions of the professional certification exams used to assess biosafety and biosecurity competencies.
