Innu Takuaikan Uashat mak Mani-Utenam

Published purpose

The project mainly consists of building a new satellite police detachment in the community of Maliotenam, which is part of the Innu Takuaikan Uashat Mak Mani-Utenam First Nation located 15 kms away from Uashat. The project also includes the repair of the current police facility in Uashat. The new 670m2 satellite police detachment will facilitate the ability of investigators to conduct interviews on site and be able to detain accused persons on a temporary basis if necessary. There will be two cells and eight offices (for investigators, liaison officers and for interview purposes) as well as separate changing rooms for women and men. The project also includes performing an urgent repair to replace the exterior siding of the Uashat police facility that is crumbling and allowing water to seep in. The salty air is aggravating this problem and this requires repair to limit further substantive damage to the structure. It will be designed in accordance with the National Building Code, provincial policing standards and led by qualified professionals. The project assessment, made by regional Public Safety officers and Québec representatives, concluded that the cost of the project is reasonable in relation to the cost of similar facilities in Québec, the surface area, the remoteness of the location and the capacity of the community to implement this project. The Council has appointed an engineer from the firm Ashini Consultants (office in Uashat), as project manager for this project.
