Published purpose

This project seeks to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from electricity generation and transportation. It supports Indonesia and the Philippines in meeting their climate goals, including their Nationally determined contributions and 2050 Net zero commitments. The project aims to support policies and plans that reduce emissions by electrifying transport, while developing strategies to ensure the power system can absorb the impacts of transport electrification without negatively affecting the financial integrity of utilities or the sustainability of power generation. Project activities include: (1) providing technical assistance on conducting research and analysis to identify gaps in policies for transport electrification and associated power system readiness to help guide government stakeholders in their policy design; (2) providing technical assistance on assessing gender and social inclusion data and conducting training to increase knowledge and experience. This helps apply key recommendations to guide decisions and policies for addressing gender and social inclusion in transport electrification and associated power system readiness; (3) conducting a needs assessment of national government and sub-national actors’ challenges on transport electrification and power system readiness, identifying major knowledge gaps for improved and new support policies; and (4) training sub-national government institutions on key recommendations to address gender and social inclusion and support just transition through plans, policies and business practices.
