Published purpose
This project aims to further enhance the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) regional capabilities to prevent, detect and respond to all types of biological threats, whether natural, accidental or deliberate in origin. Building on the foundation of the long-running Mitigation of Biological Threats (MBT) in the ASEAN Region Program, Phase III of this project comprises distinct yet complementary elements across 4 thematic areas: (1) strengthening laboratory, biosafety, and biosecurity; (2) enhancing regional health security emergency preparedness and response; (3) strengthening disease surveillance, field epidemiology, and health security intelligence; and (4) enhancing and sustaining the health-security interface operation of ASEAN. This project will contribute to operationalizing the ASEAN Centre for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases (ACPHEED).
