Published purpose

This 38-month project with Family Services of Peel will develop and implement a pilot project on ‘Mobile Sex Trafficking Prevention and Counselling Services Clinic in the Region of Peel’ to advance knowledge and enhance empowerment supports for survivors of human trafficking. This will be achieved through the establishment of a mobile sex trafficking prevention and counselling services clinic; the establishment of a team of professionals and survivor leaders to provide health trauma-informed care for survivors/victims of human trafficking; implementation of a collaborative partnerships approach inclusive of survivors leaders, health, justice, faith and social services for 36 months; the establishment of a system of data collection methodologies for impact evaluation; the sharing and presentation of collected knowledge and data through various channels and seminars at regional and provincial levels; and conducting an external evaluation of the pilot project while documenting the impact of the mobile clinic services on survivors of human trafficking. At the end of the project, the organization will have: 1. Created a mobile model of health and counselling services for survivors of human sex trafficking, who usually do not have easy access to, or prefer not to utilize health care facilities or counselling services, in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon; 2. Applied an anti-oppression, anti-racism, equity framework to the work done in Human Sex Trafficking; 3. Applied a primary prevention strategy through lunch-time group presentations at industrial sites, schools, churches, and recreation centers; 4. Instilled an awareness and knowledge of human sex trafficking, reproductive health, trauma, women’s rights and a positive appreciation of one’s own sexuality among survivors of human sex trafficking; 5. Provided education and preventative health screening and trauma services, focusing on human rights and women’s rights; 6. Developed community-based research through surveys, and medical and counselling charts, in collaboration with Peel Public Health and other health and social services organizations; and 7. Documented the impact of the mobile clinic on vulnerable populations. The project will include an external evaluation that will look at the success and scalability of the promising practices.
