Published purpose

This 47-month project will address organizational capacity needs to allow the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies, together with its member societies, to continue promoting social and systemic change towards gender equality. Activities will include research to shape the creation of strategic approaches to justice for criminalized women, particularly a reintegration toolkit with pre-release handbook and a pro-bono network of lawyers to support access to justice at earlier stages. Training will be undertaken with member societies and a range of federal, provincial and local stakeholders and processes standardized for access to justice across the organization. The value of the collected evidence base and recommended policy, program, and service options will be tested through fundraising. The supplemental funding will be used to mitigate the impact that COVID-19 limitations have had on the project by allowing the organization to conduct the GBA audit work; and cover some real gaps for vulnerable women and gender diverse folks in the North; and Carceral Law and providing training for social workers, doctors, nurses and legal professionals.
