Published purpose

This 30-month project will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19, through systemic change. Sexual Violence New Brunswick (SVNB) will achieve this by widening the impact of systemic and institutional change within New Brunswick police services to all women in the province affected by sexual violence. The organization will conduct consultations with key stakeholders, will develop and implement a framework to address systemic barriers within municipal forces, and will participate and support the work of national organizations and other sexual assault centers in Canada to address systemic change within the RCMP’s response to sexual violence. At the end of the project, the organization will have contributed to addressing systemic barriers by advancing inclusive policies and practices, increasing networks and collaboration to accelerate systemic change, and addressing persistent harmful gender norms and attitudes to support women’s equality. SVNB will build upon the institutional and systemic change created within the Fredericton Police Force by scaling up the WAGE funded project "Improving Women's Access to Justice through Institutional Change" to the remaining municipal police forces in New Brunswick. Partners will include survivors of sexual violence, the New Brunswick Association of Chiefs of Police, New Brunswick's Department of Justice and Public Safety, the Fredericton Police Force, and individual community-based organizations. Special consideration will be given to the impacts that affect underrepresented groups, including Francophone women, women living in rural communities, and women living with low income, specifically for provincial-level policy changes.
