Published purpose

This 30-month project will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19, through systemic change. Women Transforming Cities will achieve this by empowering women’s organizations to influence municipal policies using an intersectional feminist lens, and engaging partners working with underrepresented communities through City Action workshops and online resources to increase representation of diverse women’s voices in municipal political activities. At the end of the project, the organization will have contributed to addressing systemic barriers by advancing inclusive policies and practices in municipal government, encouraging more equitable and effective sharing of resources, and by supporting positive distribution of authority, voices and decision-making power in municipal government to support women’s equality. The project will build upon a network of women’s organizations to deliver workshops that address civic participation, advocacy, and policy change for women in underrepresented communities. This includes developing an online toolkit, creating training and mentoring opportunities, and promoting an online educational platform to encourage women’s full participation in municipal politics. Supplemental funds released in July 2023 will be used to deliver an additional 6-City Action workshops over the final 9 months of the project.
