Published purpose

This 53-month project will co-design, implement and evaluate a community-based wraparound model of care for child and youth survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) in Fredericton, New Brunswick. NB Champions for Child Rights Inc. will lead this project with support from a Youth Council and a committee of experts in child rights, GBV, trauma-informed practice, and cultural safety. A needs assessment and community map of services will also be completed to increase the understanding of the diverse needs and gaps in supports for child and youth survivors of GBV in the Fredericton region. At the end of the project, the organization will have developed a promising practice that will ensure that community-based organizations in the Fredericton region have the evidence, training, partners, and resources needed to deliver appropriate supports for child and youth survivors of GBV in a manner that is consistent with their best interests. This approach will also ensure that child and youth survivors of GBV in the Fredericton region receive culturally safe, linguistically appropriate, and trauma-informed supports regardless of their age, sex, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, race, culture, income, and/or disability. NB Champions for Child Rights Inc. will engage with various key stakeholders to ensure outcomes are achieved and that partners are invested in the project’s sustainability. Key partners will include child and youth survivors, provincial government departments, research centers, and community-based organizations. Members of the Francophone minority community will play an active role in the various phases of the project. An external evaluation as well as a promising practice document (blueprint) will be completed and shared as knowledge transfer.
