Published purpose
This 28-month project will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19 through systemic change. The End FGM Canada Network will address knowledge gaps in medical, education, and child protection areas, by creating interactive learning modules in both official languages through partnering with key individuals knowledgeable on female genital mutilation/cutting. At the end of the project, the organization will have contributed to addressing systemic barriers by advancing inclusive policies and practices; increasing knowledge, networks and collaboration to accelerate systemic change; and addressing persistent harmful gender norms and attitudes to support women’s equality. This project seeks to address systemic discrimination against girls at risk of female genital mutilation/cutting and survivors through informed professionals across sectors (health, education, child protection) who will be trained to spot and protect girls at risk and to give trauma-informed, culturally sensitive care to survivors. The organization will create partnerships between survivors, and education and mental health professionals to build trauma informed educational modules, and develop its network while hosting quarterly ongoing sector specific bilingual webinars with national and international experts to enhance understanding of issues surrounding FGM/C.
