Published purpose
This 29-month project will develop, implement, pilot and disseminate a community-based pandemic recovery model to address the root causes of gender-based violence. Women’s Health in Women’s Hands will achieve this by 1) developing education and awareness-raising resources to add to a Toolkit for survivors of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM-C) and healthcare & community service providers, including an online website with resources, 2) recruiting 15 participants with lived experience of FGM-C in order to create short videos/documentaries on the subject and raise awareness on the issue, 3) distributing updated Toolkit through different media platforms, and 4) delivering webinars and workshops to healthcare & community service providers on culturally-appropriate and trauma informed service methods. At the end of the project, the organization will have developed a promising practice that increased the efficacy of the Toolkit for survivors, healthcare and community service providers with regards to FGM-C. The project will engage more than 100 healthcare and community service providers and 5,000 survivors and their families on issues of gender-based violence and FGM-C. The effectiveness of the Toolkit will be documented through an ongoing evaluation.
