Published purpose
This 29-month project will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19, through systemic change. PRUDE INC. (Pride of Race, Unity & Dignity through Education) will achieve this by establishing a steering committee, promoting the project and recruiting interviewees, gathering stories about systemic barriers for visible minorities/BIPOC women, developing recommendations in partnership with municipalities and implementing recommendations. At the end of the project, the organization will have contributed to addressing systemic barriers by advancing inclusive policies and practices, increasing networks and collaboration to accelerate systemic change and addressing persistent harmful gender norms and attitudes to support women’s equality. The experience and knowledge of visible minorities/BIPOC women and girls will be utilized to identify challenges, inequalities and systemic barriers this population faces which were exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on these findings, the Steering Committee will disseminate an action plan and formulate recommendations to advance social and economic prosperity of racialized women and girls in the greater Saint John area.
