Published purpose
This 29-month project will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19, through systemic change. The Sexual Assault/Rape Crisis Centre of Peel will achieve this by engaging with the community and partner organizations to develop strategies and action plans to increase diversity in leadership positions and to address gender-based violence (GBV) in the Peel Region. Further, this project will engage with survivors of GBV to develop an advocacy campaign to raise awareness about discriminatory practices, policies, and laws and advocate for the adoption of more appropriate practices by the Peel Regional Police (PRP). At the end of the project, the organization will have contributed to addressing systemic barriers by increasing networks and collaboration to accelerate systemic change, supporting positive distribution of authority, voices, and decision-making power, advancing inclusive policies and practices, and encouraging more equitable and effective sharing of resources to support women’s equality. This project will engage with survivors of GBV, partner organizations, academic institutions, the Peel Regional Police, officials at the regional and provincial level, as well as politicians to raise community awareness, advocate for more appropriate policies and practices, and disseminate reports, strategic plans and action plans.
