Published purpose
This 28-month project will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19 through systemic change. The Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) will achieve this by 1) increasing Indigenous women's leadership skills and opportunities, 2) building a supportive network of Indigenous women leaders, 3) creating a youth education program, and 4) providing an outlet for youth to share and discuss gender roles, gender-based violence, and promote healthy relationships. At the end of the project, the organization will have addressed persistent harmful gender norms and attitudes and advanced inclusive policies and practices through a 1) Indigenous Women’s Leadership Program, 2) Indigenous Women’s Leadership Network, 3) Youth Education Program, and 4) Healing Through Arts Initiative. The SLFNHA will work with area tribal councils, schools, First Nations communities and community members to develop and deliver programming based on identified community needs and values around gender-based violence, family healing, and women's leadership.
