Published purpose

This 24-month project will identify, develop, and implement trauma-informed best practice guidelines and related training materials for local police working with street-level sex workers. The guidelines will identify and address root causes of gender-based violence. Surrey Women’s Centre Society will achieve this by establishing an advisory group with the Surrey RCMP to co-develop the best practice guidelines, in consultations with women who identify as street-level sex workers. This will include, delivering training to the Surrey RCMP, developing a ‘bad date’ reporting mechanism and a database, and contracting an external evaluator to assess project impact and share learnings. At the end of the project, the organisation will have advanced inclusive policies and practices, increased networks, and collaboration to accelerate systemic change, supported positive distribution of authority, voices, and decision-making power, and addressed persistent harmful gender norms and attitudes. Key partnership with Surrey RCMP’s Special Victim’s Unit will be instrumental throughout the project, particularly with their commitment to implement the best practice guidelines
