Published purpose

This 24-month project will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19 through systemic change. Shelter Movers will achieve this by researching the processes and treatment that survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) experience in judicial systems and in accessing social support services, developing recommendations to end practices and policies that discriminate and retraumatize, and creating a coalition to share information and advocate for changes to legislation, judicial practices and support services. The project will also focus on identifying additional systemic challenges faced by survivors fleeing abuse in rural and remote areas, and test recommendations for changes to support service organizations’ practices in these areas. At the end of the project Shelter Movers will have contributed to reducing systemic barriers by developing and testing recommendations to improve services for GBV survivors, and by building an advocacy coalition that will continue to work towards improving supports and services for GBV survivors.
