Published purpose
This 27-month project will develop and establish a cross-sectoral community of practice working on behalf of racialized women at risk of or experiencing gender-based violence in order to tackle the language barrier problem that many of these women face. The Accompagnement des femmes immigrantes de l’Outaouais (AFIO) will achieve this goal by bringing together community and institutional partners to create a joint action plan that offers recommendations on designing more appropriate interventions for racialized women. The organization will develop and publish a software program that provides users access to a bank of trained interpreters who are familiar with gender-based violence related issues, enabling them to offer users appropriate cultural and linguistic support and promoting exchanges between racialized women and the interveners serving them. By the end of the project, the organization aims to have instituted collective strategies on targeted areas that integrate the needs of racialized women at risk of or experiencing gender-based violence into the planning phase.
