Published purpose

This 29-month project will implement and evaluate the WiseGuyz program and sexual violence prevention education for boys and men in the Edmonton area to address the root causes of gender-based violence. The Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (SACE) will achieve this by working with junior high schools in the Edmonton area to identify needs related to sexual violence prevention; engaging grade nine junior high boys between ages 13-15 in sexual violence prevention education programs; and facilitating sexual violence prevention education more broadly within the community. At the end of the project, the organization will have adapted and expanded a promising practice that resulted in addressing harmful gender norms and disrupting traditional masculinity scripts that many men and boys inherit via social and cultural influences.
