Published purpose
This 19-month project will work to reduce isolation, develop and strengthen Fierté Canada’s National Network of Pride organizations, and foster cross-sector collaboration between Prides in rural areas of the country. It will also aim to identify and address the needs of the most marginalized 2SLGBTQ+ sub-communities (e.g. Two-Spirits people, queer people of color, people living with a disability, people living in poverty, etc.) and the systemic barriers they face in accessing services and in meaningfully serving their communities. Engagement efforts, research, consultations, and conferences will help determine their priorities for support in ever-changing norms, attitudes, and behaviors in their communities. The establishment of a support network and the development of tailored learning programs, tools and resources will equip them to address such obstacles. The results of this work will be shared within the National Network to allow for the development of more inclusive, equitable and accessible policies and practices in member organizations, and effect broader systemic change in their communities. Finally, Fierté Canada Pride will further distribute funding to Prides across the country through a micro-granting call for proposals including two streams: one for remote and rural prides and the other one for anti-racism and reconciliation initiatives, in line with the overall objectives of this project.
