Published purpose
This 54-month project will allow the Centre Mamik Lac-Saint-Jean to strengthen its capacity to prevent or address gender-based violence against Indigenous women, girls or 2SLGBTQI+ persons. The steps involved in reaching this goal will consist of increasing participation by Indigenous women in governance and effectively training board members on their roles and responsibilities and gender-based violence issues in order to expand their knowledge and areas of interest and improve the delivery of health services to Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQI+ persons. Accordingly, the Centre Mamik will consult Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQI+ persons about existing violence prevention resources and access to services. The project will engage key partners, identify GBV programming needs and establish a pilot project. The knowledge gained will be used to develop tools, policies, measures and protocols for Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQI+ persons. By documenting its approach, the Centre Mamik will be able to support its partners’ efforts to improve their programs and services for Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQI+ persons in order to reduce or eliminate GBV violence. With the supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, The Centre Mamik du Lac Saint‑Jean will implement a strategic plan to enhance the impact of its services. Through this, they will further advance gender equality.
