Published purpose

Through this 56-month project, Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association (NSNWA) will increase its capacity to prevent and address gender-based violence (GBV) throughout on and off reserve communities in Nova Scotia by strengthening the capacity of its 16 chapters. Each chapter’s capacity will be increased by offering training, tools, and guidance on financial management, proposal writing, communications, project management and strategic planning. By the end of the project, NSNWA and its chapters will have strengthened their capacity to prevent and address GBV against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGTBQQIA+ people, with a focus on the implementation of a community mobilization system through increased services offered across the province of Nova Scotia. With the supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, the Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association will develop stronger chapter foundations through governance, systems, and communication support, and advance leadership development through structured orientation, targeted learning and mentorship and peer learning. They will also expand capacity through a Chapter-based needs assessment, co‑developed workshops, and safe leadership spaces, and promote collaboration with provincial support programs and partner organizations. Additionally, they will build professional expertise through continuous learning and shared practices. Through this they will further advance Gender Equality.
