Published purpose
Through this 41- month project, The Native Courtworker and Counselling Association of British Columbia will increase its ability to prevent and address gender-based violence (GBV) against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people, with a focus on Indigenous women and men in the Province of British Columbia. This will be achieved by: hosting two roundtable conferences focusing on strengthening collaborative approaches in the British Columbia, Yukon, and Northwest Territories to address Indigenous GBV through discussions and engagement with those with lived experience; build partnerships to improve networks and better align services in the region; and will focus on addressing the systemic barriers that Indigenous women, children, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people in GBV situations face within the justice, health, family court, and child welfare systems through advocacy and cultural competency strategies. This project will engage community partners throughout British Colombia, the Yukon, and Territories to contribute to the roundtable content and participate in the events. By the end of the project, The Native Courtworker and Counselling Association of British Columbia will have strengthened their capacity to prevent and address GBV against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people, with a focus on all Indigenous people.
