Published purpose

Through this 21 month project, Red Deer Native Friendship Society will increase its ability to prevent and address gender-based violence (GBV) against Indigenous women, girls, or 2SLGBTQQIA+ people. This will be achieved by developing a community engagement strategy, developing relationships with stakeholders and Two-Spirit Elders and knowledge keepers, conducting a needs assessment, and using their findings to adapt their approaches, mandates, and governance structures and develop and implement culturally safe training for volunteers and employees. This project will engage with the Central Alberta Pride Society, the Trans and Non-Binary Aid Society, Urban Aboriginal Voices Society, and the Edmonton 2 Spirit Society to ensure they have good representation from the various communities for their community consultations. By the end of the project, the Red Deer Native Friendship Society will have strengthened their capacity to prevent and address GBV against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people.
