Published purpose
Through this 21-month project, the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre (GPFC) will increase its ability to prevent and address gender-based violence (GBV) against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI people, with a focus on Indigenous women and 2SLGBTQI people in and around Grande Prairie, Alberta. The Mamâhtâwihew project will work with the agency’s Board of Directors, all work teams within the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre and community partners from different sectors. The project will ensure that an in-house training curriculum to focus upon and combat GBV is developed that reflects the vast knowledge base housed within and incorporates identified best practices. GBV training efforts within the organization will be internally tracked and evaluated. By the end of the project, GPFC will have strengthened their internal capacity by incorporating knowledge into practice through the creation of a culturally-informed learning and training framework to prevent and address GBV against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI people, as well as equipping its team to raise awareness on GBV within the larger community.
