Published purpose
Through this 54-month project, Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society will increase its ability to prevent and address gender-based violence (GBV) against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people, with a focus on all Indigenous people, including First Nations, Inuit, and Metis in Metro Vancouver. This will be achieved by conducting a full audit (both internal and external) of the organization, training on Violence Prevention and Inclusion, Trauma-informed Coaching skills, developing a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) statement, a strategic plan and the creation of inter-organizational diversity, equity, and inclusion committee. By the end of the project, Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society will have strengthened their capacity to prevent and address GBV against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people, with a focus on Indigenous people in Metro Vancouver. With the Supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre will implement their strategic plan including mapping next steps, evaluation plan and will create and implement a community safety plan to strengthen organizational capacity, enhance program effectiveness and will deepen community collaboration. Through this they will further advance Gender Equality.
