Published purpose

Through this 17-month project, the London Abused Women’s Centre (LAWC) will scale Journey to Justice, a human trafficking survivor engagement model, and implement supports for survivors of Non-State Torture in seeking justice, and in adapting relevant training for staff and service providers to contribute to preventing and addressing human trafficking. It will address the need for increased support and recognize the specific needs of women who have experienced Non-State Torture (NST). To do so, the project will 1) scale the survivor engagement in developing and implementing training for those who are survivors of NST through the creation of a Survivors Advisory Committee; 2) adapt the Journey to Justice guide to address the specific needs and perspectives of survivors of NST; 3) scale and offer supports to NST survivors of sex-trafficking, and/or those at risk, to seek justice, as defined by the survivors; 4) provide training to staff and service providers on specific supports for NST survivors of sex-trafficking and/or those at risk. An external evaluator will measure and assess the impact of the promising practice. LAWC will share the adapted Journey to Justice guide on the LAWC webpage and social media accounts. LAWC will distribute the guide to regional networks of service providers within London and the neighbouring Middlesex, Elgin and Oxford Counties to share information on the promising practice with others so that they may replicate it or expand upon it.
