TransCare+

Published purpose

Through this 41-month project, TransCare+ will conduct research that will help improve GBV services for at-risk groups. It will address: the gaps in knowledge regarding the unique experiences and needs of rurally located queer and gender diverse (RLQGD) folks, in particular RLQGD youth; the need for community-generated public education, youth and family education, and service provider education while considering the intersectionality context such as dis∕ability, race, religion, Indigeneity, and socioeconomic status; the barriers faced by QGD folks who are disproportionately impacted by GBV, experience distinct forms of GBV, and often face additional barriers when reaching out for support related to GBV. To do so, the project will include the following activities: A) Establish Project Governance, B) Conduct Comprehensive Baseline Data Collection, C) Establish Research Framework and Methodology, D) Engage RLQGD Youth, Secondary Survivors, and GBV Service Providers in Community-Based Research, E) Perform Creative Knowledge Translation and Mobilization, and F) Conduct Monitoring and Evaluation. TransCare+ will: 1) Develop a public-facing executive summary of the project's plan for engaging in community-based research that includes the findings from the comprehensive baseline data collection, 2) Synthesize research findings into accessible graphics, visual fact sheets, and educational social media posts/videos for wider distribution, 3) Develop and deliver a youth-led recommendations-for-practice document that includes an analysis of research findings and action steps, 4) Create an e-learning module based on research findings for each of the groups: RLQGD youth/survivors, secondary survivors & GBV service providers, 5) Work with the youth community outreach and research facilitators to engage RLQGD youth in knowledge-sharing, and 6) Host a virtual knowledge-sharing symposium for rurally located GBV service providers, to share information on the research findings. With the Supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, TransCare+ will A) Develop and Mobilize Evidence-Based Tools to Prevent GBV and Support RLQGD Youth, Families, and Service Providers; B) Expand Research Impact Through Advanced Analysis and Academic Dissemination; and C) Develop and Implement Strategic Knowledge Mobilization and Public Access Infrastructure. Through this they will further advance Gender Equality.
