Published purpose

Through this 30-month project, Capital Rainbow Refuge will build stronger capacity of 2SLGBTQI+ community organizations and networks to advance 2SLGBTQI+ equality. It will address the need for a community-centred approach to operations and for LGBTQI+ newcomer involvement and leadership when it comes to the planning, development of policies and programming that concern them. The project will include putting in place a Co-Executive Director model to guarantee the smooth transition of Executive Leadership to an LGBTQI+ newcomer; creating an LGBTQI+ Newcomer Committee and hosting a Leadership Summit to foster greater inclusion as well as create a leadership pipeline across the organization; developing new and enhanced financial processes and controls; and refining donor management systems and outreach. The supplemental funding will allow Capital Rainbow Refuge to provide trauma-informed, antiracist governance training for their Board members and LGBTQI+ Newcomer Committee and leadership training to staff; create new committees to inform the development of a more horizontal and collaborative governance model; and engage in program design to better align organizational work with charity status requirements.
