Published purpose
Through this 42-month project, FOXY will develop, implement, and evaluate promising intervention practices that will advance knowledge and enhance empowerment supports for at-risk populations of gender-based violence in the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Nunavut. Specifically, the project will design and develop a culturally safe, Northern-focused, gender-based violence prevention program based on evidence, best-practices and trauma-informed pedagogy. Youth, Northern-based researchers, clinicians, community members, and Elders will participate in all aspects of the development of the intervention. Specifically, the project will focus on young Northern and Indigenous young women (including trans-women) participants and gender-diverse youth. With the Supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, FOXY will develop, implement, and evaluate a land-based Retreat to train and mentor a cohort of Gender-Based Violence Prevention Champions who are youth of all genders from across the three territories. Champions will receive extensive training and mentorship in trauma-informed gender-based violence prevention and design a traveling gender-based violence prevention art exhibit at the Retreat. GBV Prevention Champions will then lead sharing of knowledge about the exhibit through a social media campaign and with community members at FOXY-led community gatherings across the North. The project activities will be evaluated by an independent Evaluator, and project findings will continue to be shared with partners and networks. Through this they will further advance Gender Equality.
