The African Centre for Refugees in Ontario Canada

Published purpose

Through this 39-month project, African Centre for Refugees in Ontario Canada will build stronger capacity of 2SLGBTQI+ community organizations and networks to advance 2SLGBTQI+ equality. It will address existing internal capacity gaps to serve the needs of LGBTQI+ African Refugees and Newcomers. The project will include developing an Organizational Capacity Development plan, including updating governance documents; developing financial management guidelines and procuring financial management and donor management/branding software; creating a Human Resource manual, Volunteer Engagement policy, and related templates; and developing a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning plan. With the supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, the African Centre for Refugees in Ontario-Canada will develop internal policies related to anti oppression and racism, code of conduct for staff, and equity and inclusion. They will also develop training and materials for advisory committee members, board members and staff on anti-racism and inclusion, fundraising strategies, trauma informed care, and partnership and collaboration strategies with marginalized communities. Through this, they will further advance Gender Equality.
