Published purpose
Through this 39-month project, JusticeTrans will strengthen its organizational capacity and relationships with 2SLGBTQI+ and Two-Spirit, trans, non-binary and gender diverse communities. To achieve this, the organization will consult Indigenous elders to review and update its policies, using decolonial, 2SLGBTQI+, risk reduction, trauma-informed, disability justice and GBA+ frameworks. This will enable the creation of more inclusive practices and procedures, aligned with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action. As part of the project, JusticeTrans will use a skills matrix to measure the effectiveness of its board of directors in order to put in place a standardized on-boarding process, an accountability framework, a policy manual, and a recruitment and retention manual. Building on its current strategic plan, JusticeTrans will develop a financial health plan to ensure the organization's sustainability. Communication tools, an education and awareness plan, and new information security practices will also be implemented to protect the organization and its members from the rise of hate movements and anti-trans and anti-2SLGBTQI+ legislation. Legal training and workshops will be provided to staff members to improve their understanding of general laws and regulations. With the Supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, JusticeTrans will institutionalize its employee-led governance model through enhanced operational coordination; integrate digital infrastructure enabling ongoing maintenance of its national 2STING community resource directory; develop web architecture to publicly share completed organizational policies and tools supporting inclusive and equitable organizational practices; establish centralized community engagement and relationship management systems; and expand bilingual accessibility through translation, staff language capacity development, and accessible communications design. Through these activities, JusticeTrans will strengthen long-term organizational sustainability and increase national access to equity-advancing resources and knowledge, thereby further advancing gender equality in Canada.
