Community-Based Research Centre Society

Published purpose

Through this 36-month project, Community-Based Research Centre Society (CBRC) will conduct a participatory arts-based community-led research project to improve GBV services for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities in Fraser Health Authority, British Columbia. The project will address gaps in knowledge about 2SLGBTQIA+ survivors’ experiences and needs, as well as barriers to accessing 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming supports and services. It will include a literature review, an environmental scan, and trauma-informed arts-based group sessions facilitated by 2SLGBTQIA+ artist-researchers, supported by Indigenous Elders as well as clinicians. To mobilize research findings, CBRC will organize webinars as well as an arts exhibit featuring participants’ work and stories. It will also develop a service provider toolkit. The project will be conducted in collaboration with Health Initiative For Men (HIM). It will be guided by an Advisory and Accountability Committee made up of 2SLGBTQIA+ people impacted by GBV, with all staff, artists and contractors involved also being 2SLGBTQIA+ people. With the supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, the Community-Based Research Centre (CBRC) will expand its work with 2SLGBTQIA+ survivors of gender-based violence into the Northern Region of BC and the Yukon. They will expand existing literature review, incorporating regionally specific literature; engage with local partners; host three arts based series of workshops with 2SLGBTQIA+ survivors; develop a toolkit for supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ survivors in the northern region; and share findings with local service providers and provincial-serving organizations. Through this, they will further advance Gender Equality.
