Through this 34-month systemic change project, the Centre for Family Equity will scale the ‘Justice at Work for Lone Mothers’ initiative to advance women's and lone mothers’ economic security and prosperity in British Columbia. It will scale to deepen engagement, at the policy level, between lone parents and provincial policymakers in British Columbia. It will address policy and systemic barriers to lone mothers' economic participation and inclusion in British Columbia. To do so, the project will increase the mobilization of low-income lone mothers with Regional Community Impact Committees that promote their leadership in policymaking, conduct a public awareness campaign, and engage diverse regional stakeholders with policy recommendations informed by women’s lived experiences. With the Supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, the Centre for Family Equity will carry out consultation and allyship building, collect data and consult on a new potential pilot designs and program innovations related to earnings exemptions for people on Income or Disability Assistance and Engage Lone Mothers on informing policy making in disaster management planning and bringing more equity into childcare system development. Through this they will further advance gender equality.
