Published purpose

Through this 32-month project, African Women Alliance of Waterloo Region will build its capacity to advance gender equality and address the multi-cultural and culturally sensitive gaps in communication among stakeholders such as mainstream organizations, the Waterloo Region Police Service, African cultural associations, volunteers, the government and the community. The project will include needs assessment, development and implementation of the multi-cultural strategy, developing a system for collecting and managing data for better decision-making, and design and dissemination of resources to address GBV within the African Community in Waterloo Region With the Supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, the African Women Alliance of Waterloo Region will begin implementing the GBV strategy developed during Phase 1 by 1) strengthening internal trauma informed systems and staff wellness capacity, 2) enhancing understanding of emerging GBV trends through youth and family engagement, and 3) expanding community engagement through empowerment tools, an online resource hub, and ambassador training. Through this they will further advance Gender Equality.
