Published purpose
Through this 28-month project, Alberta Association of Midwives will build its capacity to advance gender equality. It will address the lack of awareness and knowledge of the Midwifery profession. The project will include improved access to midwifery care for specific underserved women (BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, living with disabilities, rural, northern, low income, newcomer and OLMC communities) through engagement with organizations that work with these populations, increase engagement with other health professions by mapping and identifying priority interprofessional relationships and building connections with leaders of education programs and associations and by developing a strategic fundraising and grant writing strategy to secure future diverse funding streams. With the Supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, the Alberta Association of Midwives (AAM) will design and develop two structured toolkits and undertake a professional redevelopment of its website. Through these initiatives, AAM will further advance gender equality while applying a Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) lens to ensure inclusive, equitable outcomes.
