Published purpose
Through this 29-month project, the Truro Pride Society will build stronger capacity of 2SLGBTQIA+ community organizations and networks to advance 2SLGBTQIA+ equality. It will address needs and reduce barriers specific to realities of rural Pride organizations in Atlantic Canada. The project will include the creation of rural Pride organizations networks, collecting data to inform project activities based on needs, engaging with various sectors and stakeholders, and by updating an online navigational tool to better represent rural 2SLGBTQIA+ needs and resources. At the end of the project, the Truro Pride Society will bring together the rural Pride networks for a regional Pride Symposium to provide training and education, share best practices, and provide in-person networking and collaboration activities. With the supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, the Truro Pride Society will strengthen the Rural Pride Network and implement findings from the Long-term Sustainability Plan by designing programs that could expand through Colchester County, holding monthly virtual Rural Pride Network meetings, adopting a regional structure, hosting three events in rural communities, developing resources that quantify the economic impacts of the 2SLGBTQI+ community, enhancing online resources, developing promotional materials for grassroot outreach and community engagement, and further advocating and sharing findings with local government and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Departments.
