Famous 5 Foundation

Published purpose

Through this 20-month project, Famous 5 Foundation (F5F) will build its capacity to advance gender equality by continuing to honour the Famous 5 as well as inspire and champion women’s leadership today. This will be achieved by updating their governance as a National not-for-profit organization, either as an independent organization largely funded by the existing Famous 5 Foundation (a charity), or as a new not-for-profit organization which earns a charitable number. The organization will develop a 5 year Strategic Plan leading to the 100th Anniversary of the Persons Case and slightly beyond, a 5 year Fundraising Plan to carry the organization past the 100th Anniversary of the Persons Case, as well as a 5 year Communications Plan inclusive of the organization’s achievements, areas for improvement, new messaging and strategies. An advisory committee will review and provide input into draft plans before they are reviewed for approval by the Famous 5 Foundation’s board. With the Supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, the Famous 5 Foundation will formalize legal and reporting relationships between the charitable entity, the newly established national not-for-profit, and existing and future Chapters; operationalize the approved 5-year Fund Development Plan through donor pipeline management, major gift cultivation strategies, and Board fundraising activation; and implement CRM-based fundraising performance and revenue forecasting systems aligned with long-term strategic targets. Through this, the Famous 5 Foundation will strengthen financial sustainability, governance accountability, and national coordination capacity to further advance gender equality and women’s leadership across Canada.
