Published purpose
This project aims to strengthen women's leadership among state and justice institutions across coastal Kenya in preventing or countering violent extremism (P/CVE). It seeks to achieve this through activities that foster institutional and cultural shifts that promote women's inclusion and create an enabling environment for women's leadership in P/CVE. The project aims to strengthen collaboration between women in security and justice roles and local communities. It does so through community security dialogues and specialized P/CVE training for security and justice actors. The project also seeks to provide leadership training and a mentorship program for women in security and justice institutions. These activities aim to build trust, encourage cooperative security measures, and integrate women's perspectives into broader P/CVE strategies. Project activities include: (1) creating an enabling environment for women’s leadership in P/CVE by implementing activities that build men’s support for gender equality and women’s participation. These efforts foster institutional and cultural shifts that promote women’s inclusion; (2) strengthening collaboration between women in security and justice roles and local communities through community dialogues and P/CVE interventions; (3) building trust, encouraging cooperative security measures, and integrating women’s perspectives into broader P/CVE strategies; and (4) addressing barriers to women’s leadership and creating platforms for their engagement in alignment with Kenya’s updated NSCVE, advancing a more inclusive and effective approach to P/CVE.
