Published purpose

This project aims to strengthen the protection and promotion of the right to health of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and sexual and gender diverse communities (LGBTI+). Also, it seeks to improve their access to comprehensive and quality health services in Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly in Colombia and Panama. Project activities include: (1) conducting research to obtain data on the specific health needs of LGBTI+ people; (2) representing LGBTI+ people and organizations in the health sector; (3) making quality health services and resources available to these individuals; and (4) strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations to defend the rights of LGBTI+ people. Also, the project aims to provide technical assistance in Colombia and Panama to strengthen the protection and promotion of LGBTI+ people’s right to health. This involves improving access to quality, comprehensive, rights-based and people-centred health services at national and sub-national levels. Other countries and regional entities also benefit from support through sharing of experiences and actions to strengthen efforts to promote health and rights.
