Published purpose
This project supports the Colombian ethnic commission, an entity created during the 2016 Colombian peace agreement negotiations, to implement the agreement’s ethnic chapter commitments. Particularly, it focuses on the women, family and generation provision. This provision positions the spirituality, lived experiences of ethnic women, and intergenerational processes at the centre of policy and decision-making. In addition, the project works to build Afro-Colombian and Indigenous women’s capacities to access and meaningfully engage in ongoing and emerging peace processes. Project activities include: (1) supporting ethnic women leaders to conduct culturally appropriate, local level monitoring and data collection on the implementation of the 2016 Peace agreement’s ethnic chapter, with a focus on the women, family and generation provision; (2) training ethnic communities and leaders on the ethnic chapter, its women, family and generation provision, and methods of participation; (3) facilitating ethnic leaders’ access to decision-making spaces and national and sub-national policymakers to advocate for the inclusion of their priorities in decision-making; and (4) hosting events for ethnic community representatives, particularly women, to coordinate, share knowledge and build shared agendas for influence on peace processes and policymaking.
