Published purpose
The objective of this project is to sequence the genomes of wild Solanum diploid species derived from the CIP gene bank, with the goal of comparing these wild species sequences against genomes from cultivated potato to find genomic regions harboring genes conferring traits beneficial to the Canadian potato industry including resistance to diseases and pests, improved processing and quality traits, tolerance to abiotic stress including temperature extremes and drought. The project will build resources for use in guiding potato germplasm enhancement in breeding and further advance a potato web portal for scientists to mine and utilize the data generated here and from past projects.
