Published purpose

This project aims to bring together women, people who identify as women, women with disabilities, young women, Indigenous and 2-spirit women, and men that are gender champions from across the Pacific. This includes Australia, Canada, Fiji, New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga, and Vanuatu. Habitat for Humanity Canada, in collaboration with Fiji Women's Rights Movement, aims to host a 2-day Women’s Housing Forum in Fiji to learn about climate-resilient and affordable housing. It also seeks to document the barriers and opportunities to women accessing safe and climate-resilient, affordable housing, with 4 participants from each of the participating countries invited to attend the Women’s Forum and the subsequent Pacific Regional Housing Forum. The project seeks to increase the understanding of women, including Indigenous women, climate-resilient housing practices to better secure and support their homes in Canada and the Pacific. It also seeks to enhance participants' understanding of the policy environment and the key asks directed at their governments. These asks include access to land tenure, changes to financial investment infrastructure, stronger building codes, and to strengthen networks across the region for future collaboration.
