Published purpose

January 2025 - Global hunger continues to reach unprecedented levels, with 343 million people considered acutely food insecure due to increasing conflict, climate change, economic downturn, and inflation. The number of acutely food-insecure people is nearly 200 million above pre-pandemic levels. Immediate life- and livelihood-saving assistance is required for 28.62 million people estimated to be in crisis or worse levels of acute food insecurity. With Global Affairs Canada (GAC) support, the World Food Programme (WFP) helps facilitate the procurement and shipment of Ukrainian grain to countries experiencing acute food insecurity such as in Chad. Project activities include: (1) procuring, transporting and storing wheat and other food commodities from Ukraine; (2) distributing wheat and other food commodities to crisis-affected populations; and (3) providing in-kind emergency food assistance to crisis-affected food insecure populations.
