Published purpose
September 2025 – On August 31, 2025, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck north-eastern Afghanistan causing widespread destruction across Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, and Nuristan provinces. With thousands of people affected, this disaster occurred against the backdrop of a protracted humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan with half of the population in need of humanitarian assistance in 2025. With GAC's support, the World Food Programme (WFP) helps provide emergency food and nutrition assistance and logistical services to address lifesaving and time-critical needs of vulnerable people living in the affected regions. Project activities include: (1) providing immediate food and nutrition assistance; (2) distributing emergency cash assistance; and (3) supporting logistical operations.
