Published purpose
This project aims to advance international police cooperation and promote a coordinated regional approach that effectively addresses persistent and emerging terrorism-financing challenges in West Africa (Burkina Faso, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal). By disrupting illicit financial networks linked to terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda and Islamic State affiliates in West Africa and the Sahel, the project supports regional and international counter terrorist financing efforts, such as the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), a global framework to combat financial crimes. By targeting illicit financial flows and strengthening regional border security efforts, the initiative reinforces intelligence gathering, criminal investigations, and operational activities in key threat and transit countries. Project activities include: (1) conducting joint baseline assessments on countering the financing of terrorism; 2) organizing training activities and tabletop exercises; and (3) conducting pre, post and active operational deployments.
