Published purpose
This grant represents Canada's long-term institutional support to the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF). The OIF uses these funds and other donors’ funding to achieve its mandate and implement programming aimed at improving the well-being of populations across the Francophone world, particularly young people and women. Through this funding, Canada supports the OIF’s efforts to promote the French language and Francophone cultural products; strengthen peace, democratic governance, human rights, and gender equality; improve access to quality education and training for young people; promote trade within the Francophone world; and increase resilience and empowerment in response to economic, environmental and social challenges. Since 1970, the OIF has conducted its work in partnership with all Francophonie institutions, civil society, Francophone institutional networks, the private sector, and international and regional organisations across all 5 continents. It pursues its objectives through advocacy, the development and sharing of tools, the dissemination of best practices, support for public policies, capacity building, and the financing of development projects. The organisation integrates the cross-cutting priorities of gender equality and youth into the achievement of its strategic objectives. The OIF aligns its efforts with the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and implements its activities in accordance with the principles of aid effectiveness and international standards for results-based management.
