Published purpose

This project aims to strengthen Suriname’s construction sector by increasing the number of skilled, certified workers who can meet modern industry and green infrastructure standards. By equipping apprentices with updated technical, environmental, and safety skills, the project contributes to a more competitive, professional, and sustainable construction workforce that can support national development. Project activities include: (1) developing and finalizing a competency based curriculum in sustainable green construction, supported by qualified trainers and appropriate training facilities; (2) delivering 8–9 weeks of combined classroom and hands on practical training, including technical, environmental, and health and safety modules; (3) recruiting and selecting 50 apprentices, prioritizing unemployed youth and underemployed workers, and placing them in on the job apprenticeships with certified construction firms; and (4) establishing formal partnerships with construction companies and contractors to provide mentorship, job placements, and career progression opportunities.
